The US federal government has announced the first-ever auction for leasing areas in the Gulf of Mexico for wind farms, with the highest bidders set to win leases on August 29th, potentially feeding 3.7 gigawatts of power into the Texas power grid.
Despite new weatherization regulations introduced after the 2021 winter storm, the Texas Railroad Commission has only issued citations for 3% of the state's "critical" natural gas facilities and fined companies a mere $30,500, all for paperwork issues, raising concerns over readiness for future freezes.
