Lone Star Stories

Minneapolis-based Northern Oil and Gas (NOG) announced the closing of a $168 million acquisition of oil and gas properties in the Delaware Basin, part of the larger Permian Basin region, in a joint agreement with Forge Energy and Vital Energy. The Permian Basin, a leading region in U.S. shale oil production, is expected to see a surge in oil demand by late 2023, possibly driving global oil prices up to $100 per barrel.

Record-breaking heatwave conditions in West Texas caused oil and gas companies, including Houston-based Targa Resources, to release hundreds of tons of toxic gases into the air to prevent infrastructure failure, according to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality records.

Reader Question of the Day

What is BOP?

BOP stands for Blowout Preventer. It's a large, specialized valve or multiple valve assembly used to seal, control, and monitor oil and gas wells to prevent blowouts, the uncontrolled release of crude oil or natural gas from a well. Blowout preventers are critical to the safety of crew, rig, and environment, as well as to the monitoring and management of well integrity.
