Lone Star Stories

Enterprise Products Partners and Pinnacle Midstream have launched two new natural gas processing facilities in the Permian Basin, with the aim of meeting growing demand due to increased production in the region; these new facilities are expected to significantly increase gas processing and natural gas liquids extraction capacity.

Pennpetro Energy PLC, an oil and gas company operating in Gonzales County, Texas, has increased its stake in the Whistling Straits 5H well from 25% to 100%. The company made the acquisition from Millennium PetroCapital Corp, following the completion of legal procedures. Pennpetro Energy will now operate the well and gains control over more than 2,036 acres of oil leases.

Reader Question of the Day

How is enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology changing the landscape of the oil industry?

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) refers to techniques used to extract additional oil from oil fields beyond what is recoverable through primary and secondary extraction methods. These techniques are helping to change the landscape of the oil industry in several ways:

  1. Increased Recovery Rates

  2. Improved Economic Viability of Mature Fields

  3. Reduced Dependence on Exploration

  4. Potential for Carbon Sequestration

  5. Stimulation of Technological Innovation

However, while EOR offers many benefits, it also has challenges and drawbacks. EOR techniques are typically more expensive and technically challenging than primary and secondary recovery methods.

They can also have greater environmental impacts, particularly if they involve the use of chemicals or large amounts of water or energy. As a result, the viability of EOR often depends on oil prices, technological capabilities, and regulatory conditions.
