Lone Star Stories

Kinder Morgan acquires NextEra Energy Partners’ South Texas natural gas pipelines for $1.82 billion, expanding its network in a key energy region with a significant capacity of 4.9 billion cubic feet per day. The acquisition, financed through cash and short-term borrowings and expected to close in the first quarter of 2024, reflects the oil and gas pipeline industry's trend towards consolidation driven by U.S. production growth and permit challenges for new pipelines.

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued 700 drilling permits in October 2023, including 630 for new oil or gas wells, 7 for re-entering plugged wells, and 50 for re-completions of existing wells, spanning various regions like San Antonio, Midland, and North Texas. Midland led with 352 permits for new oil/gas holes and 387 new oil completions, contributing significantly to the total of 671 new oil and 178 new gas completions processed by the Commission across the state.

Reader Question of the Day

How is the oil industry utilizing big data to improve the efficiency of the supply chain?

The oil industry is using big data like a high-tech GPS for its supply chain, making sure everything moves smoothly from point A to point B. By collecting heaps of data from every step of the process - from drilling to delivery - they can see the big picture and the tiny details. This is like tracking every move in a complex dance, ensuring everyone's in sync.

With this data, they use powerful computer programs to analyze and predict things like the best routes for shipping, how much fuel they'll need, and even when equipment might need maintenance. It's like having a super-smart planner that can juggle a million things at once and spot any potential hiccups before they happen. This helps the oil industry save time, reduce costs, and make sure their customers get what they need without any delays. It's all about being efficient and ready for anything
