Daily Data Dump

The good, the bad, and the ugly of Texas oil production.

Every week, we sift through our proprietary data to find the best performers in Texas.

Similarly, we find the oil producers who need a little help (i.e. call Barrel Hub).

If you’re wondering how we get this information, we’re under strict orders from OPEC not to disclose that (but if you want to know you can go here).

Lone Star Stories

Despite temperatures peaking at 103F (39.44C) in the Midland-Odessa area of Texas, oil and gas operations have largely remained unaffected, with no significant disruptions reported during the extreme heat conditions, according to Ed Longanecker, the President of Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO).

Texas Governor Greg Abbott's proposition to completely abolish property taxes has been met with both support and skepticism, with critics such as Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick questioning how the government would function without this major revenue source that contributed $73.5 billion in 2021.

Reader Question of the Day

What is carbon capture and how can it be applied in the oil industry?

Carbon capture, also known as carbon capture and storage (CCS), refers to the process of capturing or collecting carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, typically from large point sources like power plants or industrial processes, and storing it so that it doesn't get released into the Earth's atmosphere and contribute to global warming.

  1. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

  2. Industrial Emissions Capture

  3. Direct Air Capture (DAC)

Although CCS technologies are promising, they also have limitations and challenges, including high costs, energy requirements, and the need for suitable storage locations. Additionally, while CCS can reduce CO2 emissions, it doesn't address other environmental impacts associated with the oil industry, such as spills or habitat disruption from drilling.
