Reader Question of the Day
What is pipeline pigging?
Pipeline pigging is a practice in pipeline transportation that involves the use of devices, generally known as "pigs" or "scrapers," to perform various maintenance operations without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline. These operations include cleaning and inspecting the pipeline. The pig is inserted into an oversized section in the pipeline, known as the "pig launcher," and is then pushed along the pipe by the pressure-driven flow of the product until it reaches the receiving trap, known as the "pig catcher."
