Daily Data Dump

The good, the bad, and the ugly of Texas oil production.

Best of the Best 🏆️

Every week, we sift through our proprietary data to find the best performers in Texas.

Never Quit 😢

Similarly, we find the oil producers who need a little help (i.e. call Barrel Hub).

If you’re wondering how we get this information, we’re under strict orders from OPEC not to disclose that (but if you want to know you can go here).

Lone Star Stories

Governor Greg Abbott ceremoniously signed two pivotal energy bills at the TIPRO Summer Conference in San Antonio. These bills, Senate Bill 1017 and House Bill 33, prevent local Texas governments from banning gasoline engines or fuel stations and fortify an order that shields Texas' oil and gas sector from detrimental federal interventions.

The U.S. Department of Energy is allocating over $1 billion in federal grants to projects in Texas and Louisiana to remove over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually, advancing direct air capture (DAC) technology. This effort includes Project Cypress in Louisiana and the South Texas DAC Hub in Kleberg County, Texas.

Reader Question of the Day

How does the use of drilling muds vary based on the geology of the drilling site?

Geothermal energy, derived from the Earth's internal heat, is increasingly finding applications within the oil industry. Its integration offers potential environmental and economic benefits for drilling operations. Here are some emerging uses of geothermal energy in oil drilling:

  1. Wellbore Heating

  2. Cogeneration

  3. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

  4. Direct Use Applications

  5. Repurposing Old Wells

  6. Hybrid Systems

  7. Reduction in Water Usage

  8. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

By integrating geothermal energy into oil drilling operations, the industry can reduce its environmental impact, lower operational costs, and innovate its practices. However, the feasibility of these applications can vary based on geological conditions, economic factors, and technological developments.
