Lone Star Stories

Texas and five other southern states (Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee) contributed more to the national GDP than the entire northeast from 2020-2021, driven by a large influx of transplants to these areas.

Texas, in particular, has seen significant job growth and economic expansion, boasting the fastest GDP growth rate and highest job creation in the U.S., much of it underpinned by the state's robust oil and natural gas industries.

As the hurricane season begins, the Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) proactively ensures the safety and continuity of its operations. TXOGA encourages Texans to maintain their routines and avoid fuel hoarding during storm events, emphasizing the role of individual Texans in disaster preparedness and recovery.

Reader Question of the Day

How is crude oil refined into different products like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel?

Crude oil refining involves a process called distillation, where crude oil is heated until it vaporizes. The vaporized oil is sent into a distillation column, where it separates into different components (known as fractions) based on their boiling points.

Lighter fractions with lower boiling points, like gasoline and jet fuel, rise to the top, while heavier ones like diesel and lubricating oil settle at the bottom. The fractions are then subject to further treatment and conversion processes to purify them and transform them into useful products.

For example, cracking breaks down large hydrocarbon molecules into smaller ones to make more gasoline, while reforming alters the structure of the molecules to enhance the fuel's properties. After these steps, the products are blended with additives to create the final products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and others..
